Cottage life is a different kind of existence. Life slows to a standstill here. Scheduled meal times are forgotten. Traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner is swapped out for coffee, cake, and ice cream.
Cottage life consists of sitting around, drinking margaritas or coronas and contemplating life. It consists of rituals like walking on the beach, going out in the boat, or jumping in the river. (Well…for Mark at least.)
Cottage life is counting ships. It’s about slumming around in your pyjamas all day and brushing your teeth at noon. It’s about taking five or six days to write a blog post. It’s about deleting your work email from your phone. It’s about taking all the fucks you give in a normal day and reducing it down to zero or less. (For realz this time.)
It’s about relinquishing control and discipline, and not feeling bad about doing so. It’s about savouring the time you have with your family, friends and loved ones. Because it’s precious and it goes by way to fast.
Cottage life is just a different kind of existence. It’s sitting on the dock of the bay, wastin’ time.
